What can a Certified Personal Trainer do for you?

Some individuals only need a few training sessions to get them motivated. Other people know they won't commit themselves unless they have an appointment with a trainer. Others want a program to perform on their own or to have their form evaluated to prevent injury. In any situation, the personal training partnership goes beyond the one hour session. What do you need?

Personal Training Basics

youth/ junior training

The kids call him "Coach Ramz". He's consistent, focused and motivational, but treats each session with the same back-end approach... make sure the kids are having fun! What does the PhysiCore "Phundamental" program mean to your youth:

  • Create healthy habits, showing youth and juniors that exercise isn't boring.
  • Educate juniors about the "Play it Safe" philosophy... we don't "push" through repetitions, work through acute pain or use resistance beyond our experience.
  • Show juniors alternative movement patters to traditional bench press, squat and bicep curl exercises... all to get the same or better results.
  • Motivate each child by establishing short and/or long term goals that help drive focus for each session, as well as throughout a season.

Shawn's experience with youth starts back in his experience at the Wilmington Central Branch YMCA, providing water safety instruction and supervision to inner-city youth..

He's coached high-school boys Volleyball at St. Marks and for years, worked in the Avon Grove Youth NFL Flag Football league (Divisions 4 and 3, ages 6 through 11) as Head Coach and Division Director.

Shawn has cleared all annual background checks to handle these responsibilities and create a successful environment for youth sports skills development.

Next on the agenda is a Level Two Youth Fitness certification from Titleist Performance Institute.

This is a three level education course designed to give Shawn the ability to identify and overcome any physical restrictions that are limiting your child's potential. Each level features the latest in youth golf-specific health and fitness, from golf swing biomechanics, to physical screening techniques, to exercise prescriptions, to the most recent research and development in the field of golf swing analysis.

What the parents are saying

"Admittedly, we're probably harder on our kids, than parents of kids in other sports, but Coach Ramz has made each session something to look forward to for my boys, while helping them get better at the game too. We feel lucky to have him in their junior golf program.".
Xiao S.- Landenberg, PA

"In four seasons, our son has learned more about sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game of football than we could have ever imagined. We're asking each year for Coach Ramz to be our son's head coach."
John F. - Landenberg, PA

"It's obvious Shawn understands how different children respond to different forms of motivation. Our daughter is more focused and confident in her volleyball league and even social setting after his instruction. Thanks Shawn!"
Jess C. - Oxford, PA

Formats...

PhysiCore studio times are reserved for either private, semi-private, group or class training sessions. In a class setting, we'll ensure kids of the same temperment, ability and focus are participating in the same activities for maximum development. Please allow us the opportunity to discuss alternative sessions when special occasions arise. It's in our best interest to maintain the flow of each session and over the course of the training schedule.

More to consider about Personal Training...

Ask for references...
Ask the trainer for the names and phone numbers of other clients with goals similar to yours. Call to see if they were pleased with their workouts, if the trainer was punctual and prepared, and if they felt their individual needs were addressed. The best personal trainer to hire is the one others give high marks to.

Look for a personal trainer who is able to assist you with your special needs...
A personal trainer should always have you fill out a health history questionnaire to determine your needs or limitations. If you have a medical condition or a past injury, a personal trainer should design a session that takes these into account. If you're under a doctor's care, a personal trainer should discuss any exercise concerns with your doctor, and should ask for a health screening or release from your doctor.

Choose a personal trainer who accommodates your needs...
A personal trainer should be able to design moves that help you get the most out of your workout - whether you're a beginner, intermediate or an advanced fitness participant. And you certainly should not feel acute pain during or after it.

Look for a personal trainer who is interested in you...
A good instructor will want everyone to feel welcome. Making you feel welcome means the instructor should try to learn your name, make eye contact during the session, and most important, put your workout before his or hers.

Make sure the emphasis is on personal accomplishment...
A good personal trainer will emphasize personal accomplishment and won't create a competitive environment. The session should focus on improving or maintaining your health, not just on looking better.

Select a good teacher...
A good teacher will explain the benefits of each exercise and demonstrate how to do the exercise.

A good personal trainer will also demonstrate modifications for intermediate and advanced movements and explain if you should avoid an exercise if you have an existing injury. A big part of being a good instructor is the ability to be a good teacher.

Be sure you're having fun...
The right instructor will be dedicated to helping you enjoy the session, committed to making your workout the best it can be and will be able to translate his or her enthusiasm into a fun class. Remember, the only way you will stay with a program of regular exercise is if you look forward to attending the session.

Check the intensity of the exercise and the way the personal trainer relates to you...
For an effective workout, you must exercise at a certain intensity during session. The personal trainer should have you take your heart rate or teach you how to rate your level of exertion using the perceived exertion scale.

The final decision is yours...
Choosing a personal trainer is a very personal decision. PhysiCore personal trainers are here to help.
